Module 3: A Visitor for Bear by Bonny Becker
The book that I read was A Visitor for Bear. This book is about a bear who does not want visitors but is visited by a very persistent mouse. Throughout the story Bear realizes he actually enjoys the company of a friend.
I believe this book falls under the fantasy genre. The characters in the book are a bear and mouse and they become friends. Do mice and bears become friends in reality? Also, Bear and Mouse talk which as we all know does not happen in real life either. Therefore I think this books is in the fantasy genre. This book is also a part of the picture book genre. The pictures depict what is happening in the story accurately and helps children and readers lose themselves in the story.
The illustrator of the book Kady Macdonald Denton did an excellent job in this book. The pictures in this book are very lighthearted and fun. The technique that I think Kady Macdonald Denton used in this book is watercolor which makes the pictures imperfect and fun which is why I think kids would enjoy it.
If I were teaching this in my classroom I would have my students try to illustrate their own books using the watercolor technique. Another activity I would have my students do would be the once now essay to show them how the characters evolved. I think that both of these activities could help my students understand the story more.
The author of A Visitor for Bear is Bonny Becker. Bonny believes she put a little bit of herself in every book she writes. A Visitor for Bear has one many differerent award including being named A New York Times Bestseller. She has written multiple books including 3 Bear and Mouse stories. The Bear and Mouse books are the only books in which she worked with Kady MacDonald Denton.
